Nivalis Nights mods and modding support

Official mod support is not part of the plan at launch. Asked whether Nivalis Nights supports modding tools, the studio says: “This isn’t part of the game’s scope at the moment.”

Mod support at a glance

QuestionAnswer
Official modding toolsNot in scope for now
Steam WorkshopNot in the store’s feature list
EngineNot announced
Unofficial, player-made modsThe studio has not said anything either way

“At the moment” matters here. It describes the scope at launch, and the studio has not tied it to any date or condition.

Which engine, and why people ask

Modders usually ask about the engine first, because it decides which community tools could work. ION LANDS has not formally announced an engine, but it has described profiling the game with the Unity Profiler. The developer page has more. Whether community tools work will only be clear once the game is out, and anything unofficial runs at your own risk, since the studio supports none of it.

What you can change without mods

These are the parts you can shape inside the game itself:

  • Your homes. “You can furnish your apartments however you’d like, with paintings, lights, furniture and more.” There are more than 620 furniture items. See apartments and houses.
  • Your restaurants. Layout and decoration are yours to set, and so is the menu. Recipes unlock as you go and can be customized.
  • Other people’s spaces. Clients pay you to decorate theirs.
  • The camera. A photo mode with filters and lens settings; the camera page shows it.
  • Your screen. Ultrawide monitors are supported, and the interface was built to handle aspect ratios down to 4:3.

Could mod support come later?

The studio plans to keep supporting the game after release, but has not mentioned mod tools as part of that. The multiplayer page has the same kind of answer for co-op.
