Who is the Nivalis Nights developer?
Nivalis Nights is developed by ION LANDS, the independent studio that made Cloudpunk, and published by 505 Games. The studio describes it as “a unique cyberpunk slice-of-life sim, in development at ION LANDS, the team that brought you Cloudpunk”.
At a glance
| Developer | ION LANDS, the makers of Cloudpunk (see the Cloudpunk connection) |
|---|---|
| Publisher | 505 Games |
| Studio head | Marko Dieckmann |
| Engine | Not announced (profiled with Unity’s tools) |
| Composer | Harry Critchley |
| Wishlists | 1 million before launch |
What engine does it use?
The engine has not been formally announced, but the team tunes performance in the Unity Profiler: “The Unity Profiler has been essential in our optimization process, as it lets us track exactly how CPU, GPU, and memory are used.” On the look: “Although the world is built entirely from voxels, it does not use a traditional voxel engine.”
That matters mostly for two questions: whether your PC can run it (the requirements page) and whether it can be modded (the mods page, where the studio’s answer is that modding tools are out of scope for now).
Who writes it
The lead writer also wrote Cloudpunk, and names another writer on this one: “The Shadows of Doubt writer, Stark, worked on this with me.” The story itself is covered on the story page.
In the studio head’s words
“You start with a single noodle stand and expand to restaurants, bars and nightclubs, making deals, farming your ingredients, fishing down by the docks”
Marko Dieckmann, ION LANDS
“We like to explore the day-to-day life in this world.”
