Nivalis Nights character creation and camera
There is no character creator and no third-person view. The studio says: “Currently, Nivalis Nights does not offer character customization.” You play in first person, and “The only visible parts of the body will be your arms and hands.”
First person, on purpose
The camera is a deliberate choice. The studio says “Nivalis Nights will be played in a first person perspective.” The reason given is that “we want the player to experience the immense scale of the city and to truly feel immersed”.
The lack of an avatar has the same reason: the game is meant to put you at the center of the city without a virtual body standing in for you. For motion comfort, Steam lists Camera Comfort among the game’s accessibility features.
Who you are, then
Your character has no face you ever see and no body type to pick. The people around you are the opposite: the studio moved them from voxel figures to traditional models with detailed faces, so their expressions read better in conversation. They are who you look at all game.
Asked how romance can work without knowing who you are, the developer described relationships as built through choices, actions and what you say, and did not mention appearance. The romance page has more, and the relationships page covers the four kinds of bond. Your character has no set gender. The lead writer: “The player’s gender is not defined. For now there is no character creation.” When a player argued that the hands on screen are a woman’s, the reply was “That’s wrong.” The team would look at the question again if enough players object: “We could revisit it if a lot of people had an issue, sure.”
Photo mode
The studio confirms it: “Nivalis Nights WILL feature a photo mode, so virtual photographers get ready.” The screenshot above shows these settings on the panel:

Five icon tabs sit above the panel with the middle one highlighted, so there are more settings than these four; the studio has not listed what is on the other tabs. Since your character is never on screen, photo mode is for the city and its people.
