Nivalis Nights on Mac and Linux

Not at launch, and not being explored for now. Asked about Mac and Linux, the studio says: “This isn't something we're exploring at the moment, but we will let you know via our social channels if this changes.” Steam lists the game for Windows only.

A firmer answer than the console one

This is the only platform the studio has answered with a present-tense no. The console answer says it is looking into other platforms; the Mac and Linux answer says it is not exploring them. Both leave room for change, and the Mac answer names where that change would be announced: the studio’s social channels, which are listed on the developer page.

The position has held since before the rename. Asked then whether the game would come to Mac, the studio said “Right now, we’re working towards launching on PC (Steam and Epic Games)” and “If we consider any additional platforms in the future, we will let you know.” That is still the plan: Steam at launch, the Epic Games Store later. The Epic version has been described only as part of the PC release, so it does not open a Mac route either.

The hardware side says the same thing. All four published tiers name Windows 10 or Windows 11 and DirectX 11, and none lists a Mac chip or a Linux distribution. There is no Mac tier to compare your machine against.

Cloud streaming

GeForce NOW is the likely route onto a Mac, a Chromebook or a Linux laptop. NVIDIA has put the Steam version on its list of games coming to the service this month; once it shows up in the library, you stream the Steam copy you own. What you need is on the GeForce NOW page.

What about Steam Deck?

The Deck is handled as its own case. It is a Valve handheld with its own compatibility rating, and the studio answers it separately, as a handheld question. Valve has not rated the game yet; the Steam Deck page follows that rating.
