Is Nivalis Nights a sequel to Cloudpunk?
The studio has not called Nivalis Nights a sequel. What it says is that the new game is set in the same city as Cloudpunk, its previous game, and that it is “designed to be a standalone experience”. Sequel, prequel or side story: none of those words has been used.

What the studio has said
Nivalis is the same city featured in Cloudpunk, our previous game.
ION LANDS
Both games will offer a unique experience of the city and its life

So the link is the place and the people who made it. If you played Cloudpunk, the studio says “you might notice some familiar details and small connections”, and nothing it has said makes Cloudpunk required playing first.

| What you do | Deliveries: you “zip around gorgeous streets delivering packages in a flying car”. | Run food businesses, follow the city’s stories, fish, farm and decorate homes. |
| Getting around | Mostly flying: “the vast majority of Cloudpunk is spent in the air”. | On foot, by taxi and metro, and in your own boat. No driving. |
| Camera | The studio added a first-person mode in an update. | First person only, no character creator. |
For the district-by-district view of the city this time, see the districts page, and for how open it is, the open world page.
Is Camus back?
No, not as things stand: “Currently there are no plans to bring Camus back to visit Nivalis.” You will meet new people instead. The people named so far are on the characters page.
The link, year by year
- 2021, the reveal. Announced as a slice-of-life game set in the same city as Cloudpunk, which the studio had earlier opened up with a first-person mode.
- 2022, the first proper look. One outlet called it “the direct opposite of Cloudpunk”: putting down roots instead of flying over the city.
- 2023, a hands-on. A preview of the playable demo concluded: “Nivalis feels like the natural evolution from Cloudpunk”.
- 2024. Coverage of a delay noted the game was “named for the cyberpunk city in question”.
- 2026, the rename. Nivalis became Nivalis Nights, so the title no longer matches the city name alone. Why the name changed.
A different look for the people
The city is still built from voxels, but the characters are not. Development began with voxel-art characters, and the team switched to traditional models with detailed faces so they could animate more expressively.
Still unexplained
Where Nivalis Nights sits in time relative to Cloudpunk, and which of Cloudpunk’s places or people turn up. The studio has promised more on the connection soon.
